Sony Pictures is busy hammering away on a fifth instalment in the Resident Evil movie franchise, with the horror flick due to release in cinemas on September 14, 2012.
That’s according to a report on Box Office Mojo, which also reveals the film will feature 3D viewing support. Unsurprisingly, Milla Jovovich looks set to surprise her role as the arse-kicking zombie slayer Alice, though further cast details remain under wraps.
The most recent Resi flick – 2010’s critically panned RE: Afterlife – garnered a whopping $236 million in revenue at the box office, which the report notes is roughly “about as much as the first three movies combined.”
Apparently, nearly 80 percent of all Afterlife ‘s domestic revenue were attributed to 3D screenings.
We’ll have more on Resident Evil 5 (tentative title) as it breaks.
