A new entry in the stealth-based Thief series is currently in development, according to film production company Straight up Films.

That’s not all however. In addition to a new Thief game, fans also have a movie adaptation to look forward to, with Straight up Films’ website commenting, “Steeped in the steam-punk world created by the video game, the film will tell a new chapter in the storied world of the series’ hero.”

According to the production firm, the Thief movie features a script penned by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes, who had previously teamed up on Misconduct, which starred Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino.

The most recent Thief videogame was released back in 2014 for PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360, and was developed Eidos’ Montreal-based studio and published by Square Enix. The game was met with mixed reviews from critics, although just before the game’s launch its developer had hinted that it was keen to produce a sequel:

"Nothing’s announced yet but we’re very keen to see how people respond to the game […] We’ve built a really big universe around the first game, and there’s a lot of layers to it – the world is really deep […] so there’s a lot of possibilities to jump on,” commented Eidos Montreal’s Nick Cantin.
