New White Knight Chronicles character, magic info

Well if it isn’t White Knight Chronicles, our PlayStation 3 RPG posterchild of choice. Famitsu has broken open a minor treasure trove of fresh details on Level 5’s much-anticipated title, and Kotaku has stepped up to translate.

First off, that dastardly horned Black Knight we’ve been seeing in the trailers can transform into an even dastardlier winged Goliath. Presumably this comes in handy when he doesn’t have enough change for the bus.

There are, Famitsu goes on, two types of sword players can use: one and two-handed. The former are ideal for swift, light combos, while the latter deal massive damage but make it harder to chain hits. Not exactly reinventing the wheel there then.

But wait, there’s more. Magic comes in two flavours – Holy and Spirit – and casting spells drains some of the caster’s health. Spirit magic is further broken down into four elemental categories: Water, Wind, Fire and Air. We’re speculating that Water magic may have additional potency when used against monsters partial to Fire. Textbook stuff.

White Knight Chronicles is out in Japan exclusively for PS3 on December 25.
