Nexon Says The Finals Has Seen A ‘Lower Than Expected’ Performance

Nexon has revealed during its latest financial results that free-to-play shooter The Finals has recorded “lower than expected” performance, despite having gotten off to a relatively solid start when it launched back in December last year.

“The launch of Season 2 in March created a short-lived increase in player metrics, but delivered lower-than-expected retention and revenue,” it said, adding that developer Embark Studios is looking to “understand and address the key issues” alongside its Live Operations team in Korea.

Nexon’s revenue in North America and Europe was up ¥9.9 billion, although it was less than expected by the publisher. Strong performances came from the likes of EA Sports FC Online, EA Sports FC Mobile, and Blue Archive, although these were “partially offset” by “lower-than-expected” performance for The Finals.

The Finals saw a surprise launch in late December for PS5 and PC, and has been supported by Embark Studios with a steady stream of post-launch patches and seasonal content.
