Nolan North, the voice actor and performance capture talent behind Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, has admitted his biggest fear is that the final instalment in the popular action-adventure franchise goes out with a whimper ala Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Speaking in the latest episode of PlayStation Access alongside his Uncharted 4 co-star, Troy Baker, North commented: "People always ask me, ‘Is this the last one, [or will there] be another one?,’" North told PlayStation Access at Paris Games Week. "You just don’t want that [Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the] Crystal Skull. You don’t want that, where people go ‘…yeah.’ You want to go out on the high. I personally think we did."
North’s reference to the fourth Indiana Jones movie isn’t exactly meant as a compliment, as the film is considered to be by far the weakest outing in the action-adventure movie series starring Harrison Ford. The voice actor went on to say that there has been an "incredible amount of pressure" to end the Uncharted franchise with a bang, especially for those who have been with the series since day one.
"Naughty Dog always does their part, I just hope I did enough of my part," he said.
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is due out on PS4 on March 18, 2016. Sony recently unveiled the game’s multiplayer component at Paris Games Week with an action-packed trailer, and confirmed that the online mode will run at 900p/60fps. The multiplayer will introduce a number of new elements this time around, including the ability to summon AI-controlled characters to aid you in battle, as well as calling on supernatural items to give you the edge against your opponents. Players will be able to give Uncharted 4’s online companion a test drive early next month with the planned beta test.
A Thief’s End has been heavily marketed as the final chapter in hero Nathan Drake’s story, and Naughty Dog has itself admitted that continuing the series without the cocky fortune hunter would be ‘difficult to imagine.’ The cast have already finished up their motion-capture work for the sequel, with Nolan North wrapping up just a few weeks ago. Interestingly, the ubiquitous voice talent has claimed that the majority of Uncharted fans aren’t too keen on a movie adaptation of the popular franchise.
