Sony’s PlayStation 4 has continued its incredibly strong run in North America since its launch in November 2013 by confidently taking the mantle of top-selling console for the month of September.
Compiled by NPD Group, Sony’s black box of tricks sold three times the amount of consoles as it had done in August, and was undoubtedly helped no end by the release of Bungie’s hyped-to-the-sky sci-fi shooter, Destiny. And by our menial math skills, that’s over a whopping half-a-million units in just one month.
In the software stakes Sony also ran home winner, topping current-gen sales for Madden NFL 15, NHL 15 and EA Sports Canada’s FIFA 15 – which is fairly significant given each title’s historical dominance on Xbox platforms.
Breaking: PS4 was September’s top-selling console, leading current-gen software sales including Madden NFL 15, NHL 15 & FIFA 15. Thank you 💙

Sony has also divulged that Destiny is indeed PS4’s most-played game, with gameplay hours some five times more than that of the second-placed title. PlayStation Plus memberships also climbed 115 percent the week prior to the launch of the Activision-backed shooter.
All in all, September’s been PS4’s and indeed Sony’s most fruitful month of the year.
