Onimusha reboot chatter shot down by Ninja Theory

Ninja Theory has poured cold water on reports that it is helming a reboot of Capcom’s popular Onimusha franchise.

The comments come in light of reports earlier this year that the Heavenly Sword studio had been brought in to rework the Japanese-based hack-‘n-slash franchise following a lengthy hiatus.

Prior to that, it was rumored Spark Unlimited – who is currently chiselling away on Lost Planet 3 – were making a reboot.

However it seems Ninja Theory also isn’t in the frame, with the company writing on Twitter: “We are not working on an Onimusha game. Any rumors surrounding this are untrue.”

Onimusha first entered the market back in 2001 for PlayStation 2, and spawned a number of squels, the last one being Dawn of Dreams in 2006. The franchise has sold around 7.9 million copies worldwide.
