Codemasters has today confirmed that Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising will be released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this summer.
The game, which is being developed on the EGO engine, was previously only announced for a PC release, which is what makes this news rather surprising. Codemasters is particularly keen on emphasising the advantages of investing in its own tech, boasting the game is like nothing seen before.
“The advantage of investing in our own technology is that we can custom-build major engine components specifically suited to each title; such as dynamically lit particle effects for gunfire and explosions, incredible vehicle detail and extensive worlds that you can literally get lost in,” commented senior producer, Brant Nicholas.
After checking out several trailers for the title, it appears as though this does have the potential to be a crucial summer release for PlayStation 3 owners who may be ready for their next war experience post-Killzone 2.
Codemasters has released a new producer/developer diary on their website for Dragon Rising, which can be seen here.
