Panasonic researching, creating 3D Blu-ray products

Not content with today’s primitive 2D displays, Panasonic has opened a research facility in Hollywood that plans to produce 3D Blu-ray Home Theater products for consumers by next year.

Dubbed 3D Full HD, this new Blu-ray format will bring an extra dimension into your living room. Panasonic will work hand-in-hand with film studios to create these 3D FHD movies. On the other end of the spectrum, Panasonic will create a Plasma 3D Full HD home theater system and a 3D-ready digital cinema projector for consumers.

"Panasonic recognizes that for 3D FHD to succeed, just like Blu-ray, collaboration on research, development and production with studios and content providers is absolutely essential," said Eisuke Tsuyuzaki, Managing Director of Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory. "The creation of the new PHL Authoring Center will enable Hollywood to start trial production and ultimately create commercially available 3D FHD titles to realize a new window into reality, and elevate the level of High Definition entertainment that consumers can enjoy in their own homes."
