PC Players Won’t Need An SSD To Play Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, PC Specs Reveal

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was one of the biggest early titles for the PS5, and at the time, Insomniac emphasized just how much this game would not be possible without the PS5 and it’s lightning fast SSD.

Since then, Insomniac backtracked on that a bit, and with its release on PC coming up at the end of the month, that notion seems to be completely shattered, now that the full PC specifications have been revealed.

It looks like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be able to run perfectly fine without an SSD, with players being able to run the game at 720p at 30 FPS with a classic hard disc drive, no solid state required.

Now of course this isn’t how Insomniac recommends you play the game. Once you jump over one column from the minimum specs to the recommended specs, an SSD is listed under storage.

But this does totally undue anyone trying to tout that Rift Apart was only possible on PS5. Of course that comes with plenty of resolution and frame rate sacrifices, but it’s still playable, which is the key factor.

So perhaps there is a world where Rift Apart could have been released on PS4 as well as PS5, but then we might not have gotten Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Rift Apart in such quick succession from Insomniac.

We already know creating games for multiple platforms puts plenty of slowdowns and challenges on development teams, especially when it comes to developing across console generations.

Another PlayStation Studios team Guerilla Games just recently spoke about how Horizon Forbidden West was almost a completely changed game from what we got because it was such a struggle to get Aloy flying on the back of a Sunwing working on PS4.

It just goes to show that while Sony is likely getting ready to leave the PS4 behind, there’s still a lot that console was able to accomplish, and could potentially still do.
