Outriders Developer People Can Fly The Latest To Suffer Layoffs, More Than 30 Developers Impacted

People Can Fly, the studio behind Outriders, Bulletstorm and others is the latest to suffer layoffs, with more than 30 developers impacted, according to a report from Kotaku.

The report claims that sources told Kotaku those affected were working on a currently unannounced title, Project Gemini, with Square Enix working with People Can Fly as a publisher once again.

An internal email said to be from People Can Fly’s development director Adam Alker says the layoffs are a result of a limited budget and scaling down the scope of the project.

Project Gemini’s team was also whittled down by 20 people being moved off the project and onto others within People Can Fly.

“We understand that this decision impacts each of you, and we want to express our gratitude for your hard work, dedicated, and contributions thus far.

To those individuals transitioning out of the studio due to these changes, we extend our sincere appreciation for the skills and expertise you brought to the team. We will keep our fingers crossed for your next steps in game dev and offer all our support.”

Also from the report, labour laws in Poland require that those affected by these cuts will continue to work during a three-month transition period, however those not working and living in Poland affected will need a new job next week.

Hopefully those developers who’re now looking for work are able to land on their feet soon.
