Physical Resident Evil Requiem Copies On PS5 Reportedly More Popular Than All Xbox Versions Of The Game

Data from Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliot has revealed that the disc version of Resident Evil Requiem on PS5 pulled in more money than all versions of Capcom’s horror title on Xbox.

According to the data, Resident Evil Requiem sold 1.3 million copies on disc accounting for 15% of the games total revenue, with 30.2% of its revenue attributed to PlayStation hardware. Physical copies of Resident Evil Requiem generated 1.8x more revenue on Sony’s system than digital and physical combined on Xbox formats, says the newsletter.

Elsewhere, the newsletter covers physical sales for a number of other major titles released this year, including 007 First Light, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and Crimson Desert, which amounted to less than 30% of their revenant totals. While digital sales obviously take the lion’s share for these games, the report reveals there’s still a demand for physical title. Marvel’s Wolverine, for example, reportedly sold 800,000 units on disc out of its 2.6 million sales total, taking nearly a third of overall revenue.

For Japan, physical sales of PlayStation first-party games and titles with a more Japanese flavour, such as those from Capcom, perform better than the west. Elliot states in the newsletter that disc-based copies are more “ingrained in the culture” of Japan, with Pragmata shifting 44% of all copies on disc. Meanwhile, Onimusha: Way of the Sword saw 44.1% of all copies moved were physical.

He also suggested that the Japan-exclusive black PS5, which is a digital-only model that can be outfitted with a disc drive, is a way to “nudge” Japanese consumers towards digital game purchases.

Resident Evil Requiem was released for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S in February 2026. You can read our full review here.
