PlatinumGames Has Seemingly Lost Another Five Game Directors, Reveals Hideki Kamiya

Ex-PlatinumGames bigwig Hideki Kamiya has revealed in a new video that at least five other game directors have departed the company recently.

The Resident Evil 2 director recently revealed that he had established a new studio with Capcom’s backing, which features a number of former PlatinumGames employees. This had resulted in speculation that many more could follow Kamiya-san to his new studio, casting doubt over the company’s future.

Now, a bonus segment of Kamiya’s latest video on YouTube has footage of — in his own words — a “former PlatinumGames directors’ drinking party.” The footage showcases Kamiya alongside Abebe Tinari (Bayonetta Origins director), Yusuke Miyata (Bayonetta 3 director), Takahisa Taura (Astral Chain director), Kenji Saito (Metal Gear Rising director), and Masaki Yamanaka (Anarchy Reigns director and Resident Evil character designer).

While Tinari-san previously announced last month that he had left PlatinumGames, the others were not known to have departed the Bayonetta developer. Here’s what Kamiya had to say in the video:

Games are made by people. Wherever they go from here, they’ll create things that only they can… please look forward to their work!

Kamiya revealed at The Game Awards 2024 back in December that he is now working on an Okami sequel at a new studio, Clovers.
