Sony has announced that it has discontinued support for PlayStation TV in North America and Europe.
The format holder confirmed this week that shipments for the microconsole ceased at the end of 2015, though will continue in Asian markets.
Speaking in a statement issued to GameSpot, Sony commented: "PlayStation TV shipments were terminated at the end of 2015 in SCEA and SCEE. Shipment is still continuing in SCEAsia (as of the end of February, 2016), and we have nothing to announce regarding the timing of termination."
Released in Japan as PlayStation Vita TV in November 2013 and a year later in the west, PS TV allows gamers to play a variety of content via physical cards or digital download, including PS Vita, PSOne and PlayStation Portable software. The device uses a DualShock 3 or DualShock 4 control pad to play its content, which is hooked up to a TV via HDMI cable.
To begin with PS TV was sold in the U.S. for $99.99, although due to a lack of interest in the device Sony later slashed the price to just $49.99.
