With the likes of Star Wars: Battlefront, Battlefield Hardline, Helldivers and Destiny: The Taken King all competing for votes in this year’s Best Shooter category, the opposition was tough, but Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops III has won over our readers by providing yet another solid and immersive multiplayer experience.
Four-player co-op, an enhanced Zombies mode and all-new powers, including a momentum-based movement system, ensure that the familiar Call of Duty formula gets a fresh coat of paint. Action is fast and furious with players able to choose from a wealth of different classes and game modes, while further customization options with the paintshop feature adds a new level of personalization to the series.
The Call of Duty series has long been at the top of its game, proving to be a best seller year after year, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 proves that the PlayStation community just can’t get enough of its diverse multiplayer offerings. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is big, bold and explosive, and despite the series now being over ten years old, Activision continues to be top of its game producing one of the most sought after shooters every year without fail.
Runner-up – Helldivers
Arrowhead Game Studios’ top-down shooter was narrowly behind Black Ops 3 in the voting thanks to its addictive and chaotic combat which takes place in a procedurally generated universe. Helldivers is a hardcore game for core shooter fans that requires tactics and skill, but when you get it right there’s no other shooter out there that feels more satisfying.
