Italian retailer Multiplayer is now taking pre-orders for Sony’s PlayStation VR headset, with the device listed at a rather wallet-draining €499.90 on its official website.
Fortunately, you won’t have to pay that amount outright, and if PlayStation VR ends up costing less than the amount listed, you’ll only have to cough up the lowest price. Similarly, if the device ends up costing more than that—and we really, really hope that isn’t the case—then you’ll only need to pay €499.90.
Sony has yet to slap an official price point on the virtual reality gaming headset, although it has previously said that it will be positioned at a similar price to that of a new games console. No release date has been announced yet, but the device is expected to drop some time during Q1 2016. However, with Paris Games Week kicking off tomorrow, we’ll hopefully hear more on PlayStation VR at Sony’s press conference, where it is expected the format holder will reveal a host of new software to boot.
Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida has previously expressed interest in seeing the Gran Turismo franchise support Sony’s VR headset, and Capcom has indicated that Resident Evil may be one of the major series to adopt the technology. Sadly, one game that isn’t likely to go down the PlayStation VR route is Until Dawn; Supermassive Games recently quashed reports that it was working on DLC compatible with Sony’s new headset. What do you think of PlayStation VR? Will it be another underwhelming piece of tech like PlayStation Move and 3D gaming, or do you think it will really change the way we play games? Sound off in the comments section below.
