Crysis will be offered as a free download to all gamers who pre-order the upcoming third entry in the celebrated sci-fi franchise, Electronic Arts said today.
Crysis was originally released on the PC back in 2007, and wowed critics for its lush visuals and intense FPS action-oriented gameplay. The game centres on an on-going battle between the U.S. and North Korea for a mysterious alien artifact, and features a host of customisable weapons for you to tinker with.
Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli commented: “The release of Crysis in 2007 was truly a watershed moment for first-person shooters and raised the bar on cutting-edge visuals and gameplay and we could not be more thrilled to include the original game as a pre-order bonus.”
“Building upon the framework laid by the previous games, Crysis 3 will deliver an action-packed experience that encourages players to access, adapt and attack the Seven Wonders of the New York City Liberty Dome and challenges that stand in their way.”
In addition to receiving the original game for free, pre-ordering Crysis 3 will also net you the Hunter Edition of the upcoming sequel, which includes a host of extra multiplayer bonus content, such as the Predator bow, Hunter Nanosuit module and more.
In Crysis 3, gamers witness Prophet’s return to New York only to discover it has been completely encased in a Nanodome engineered by the nefarious Cell Corporation.
Inside, the environment has transformed into a sprawling urban rain forest popular with overgrown trees, swamps and rivers, with the entire area divided into seven districts – hence the Seven Wonders of New York moniker.
Crysis 3 will be released on PS3, PC and Xbox 360 in February 2013.
