PS Plus reached an impressive 26.4 million paying members at the end of the last financial year, Sony announced during its recent Corporate Strategy Meeting briefing.

The format holder confirmed a number of interesting stats for its console business, including the fact PlayStation 4 owners are spending a combined 600 million hours playing their console every week. In addition the impressive PS Plus stats, Sony is planning on enhancing the content and appeal of the premium subscription service in order to make it more attractive to gamers who have yet to sign up.

Meanwhile, PlayStation Network, which launched back in 2006 alongside the release of the PS3 in North America and Japan, has now amassed 70 million monthly “active” users. While the company did not disclose a breakdown of this figure, it presumably includes PS4, PS3, and PS Vita systems.
PS Plus was launched in 2010 and was initially not mandatory to take your console online, with PS3 multiplayer remaining free. Subscribers could however net a bunch of extra content, including free games, and in 2013 Sony made the decision to charge for online gaming with the release of the PS4.
Sony announced earlier this year that the PS4 had shipped 60 million units worldwide, bringing it close to the life-to-date sales of its predecessor, which has managed to move 80 million units in just over ten years.
