PS Plus Update: August is looking good for Europe, Australia, and New Zealand

There are a dearth of new releases during the summer months, and PlayStation Plus has got gamers in Europe, Australia and New Zealand covered. Sony has announced via the EU PlayStation Blog that five new games will be joining the service at the end of July, and will presumably be available in all of those regions if the blog post’s countries list correctly indicates that.

There will be something to satisfy most tastes in this upcoming update to wrap up the summer months, which is especially the case if PlayStation 3 is the player’s console of preference. The PS3 will be exclusively receiving open-world titles Need For Speed: Most Wanted and Mafia II, along with story-driven shooter Spec Ops: The Line. The chaotic action game When Vikings Attack will be available on the PS3 and also on the PS Vita. The Vita’s exclusive game will be Lego Lord of the Rings.

As is customary, the new comes at the cost of the old, which means that five titles will be leaving, from quirky puzzler Catherine to classic first-person shooter Battlefield 3. Make sure to get these games on your download list before it’s too late!

-Lego Lord of the Rings (Vita)
-Mafia II (PS3)
-Need for Speed: Most Wanted (PS3)
-Spec Ops: The Line (PS3)
-When Vikings Attack (PS3/Vita)

Leaving PS Plus on 31st July

-Battlefield 3 (PS3)
-Catherine (PS3)
-Malicious (PS3)
-Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus (Vita)
-Unit 13 (Vita)

*We incorrectly stated the PlayStation 3 version of Lego Lord of the Rings would be available to PS Plus users starting July 31.  This has been changed to correctly state that it is in fact the PS Vita version that will become available.
