PS Vita isn’t dead yet as Sony clarifies ‘legacy platform’ comments

Sony has moved to clarify comments made by Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI), regarding the status of PlayStation Vita as a "legacy platform."

Speaking in a statement issued to GamesBeat, the console maker said that House’s comments pertained only to the older models of its latest handheld platform, and not the system overall.

What Andy mentioned as ‘legacy platform’ was a part of the write-off the PS Vita component for the first generation of PS Vita, which is no longer available in the market,” said the company. “And he did not directly mean the current PS Vita and PS TV models, which are available in the market. Our portable business will be continued, and many users are now enjoying PS4 remote play features as well as original PS Vita game titles on PS Vita and PS TV.”

House made the comments during Sony’s Electronics Investor Relations Day, where he described PS Vita as lagging in the U.S. and European markets while remaining "strong and vibrant" in Asian territories. PlayStation TV also appears to be struggling, with retailers in Europe trimming down the price significantly since its release only nine months ago.

Sony previously teased it will have an ‘exciting show‘ lined up for E3 2015.
