Sony’s PlayStation 3 looks set to surpass the Wii in terms of overall year-to-date hardware sales in Japan, according to the latest figures from Media Create.
Nintendo’s white wonder has currently notched up sales of 1,000,482 in 2010, while PS3 is quickly closing the gap at 997,187 units sold, with the latest weekly hardware charts revealing the platform managed to outsell the Wii for the period August 30 – September 5.
Going by these numbers it seems a PS3 lead for 2010 is imminent, with Wii sale having noticeable declined in recent months in contrast to its first few years on the market.
It’s also worth noting that Xbox 360 has enjoyed a shot in the arm in terms of sales in Japan, with the Microsoft platform eclipsing the 150,000 sales mark in terms of year-to-date performance.
