PS3-exclusive Datura announced

Sony has lifted the wraps off Datura, a brand new PlayStation 3-exclusive collaboration between SCE Santa Monica Studio and Plastic Studios.

Details are sketchy at present, though it has been confirmed that PlayStation Move will be compatible with the game and “adds an extra level of immersion.”

Gamers will apparently start off in the middle of a lush forest, and must explore by controlling their character’s hand.

According to Plastic Studio’s Michal Staniszewski, players can expect “a unique experimental narrative and original way of interaction.” This will allow you to experience the world “not only visually but also empirically: an illusion that you really touch trees, faces and other objects.”

Choices made will of course have consequences, which you’ll face directly. “However, through these puzzles it is the element of anxiety that Datura explores: was it a right or a wrong choice?” added Staniszewski.

Datura is “not an easy one to categorise,” notes Jan Kuczynski, producer at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE).

"If you’re a fan of something ‘different’ and liked games such as Flower and Journey then I think you’ll like this one too. We don’t want to give away too much about the gameplay as it really is the type of game that you need to experience for yourself,” he said.

While the game supports PS Move, you’ll still be able to play the game with a bog-standard PS3 controller.

Datura is scheduled for release on PlayStation Network in 2012. Stay tuned for more details as they become available to us.
