Noah Musler, Sega’s Director of Artists and Repertoire, has stated that he agrees with industry analysts who feel the PlayStation 3 will catch up to the Xbox 360 in terms of hardware sales, if not surpass it altogether.
Musler attributed this not only to the introduction of the new 40GB console and various price cuts, but the influx of quality software available.
"Microsoft has done a good job of closing the gap between the platforms. I don’t think they are in the situation they were in with the PS2 and Xbox 1, but it is still too soon to say," said Musler, during an interview with Gamesindustry.biz
He also added that he feels having multiple PS3 SKUs on the market would do little to hurt the machine, stating, "I think it has still got a little bit of time to grow.”
"Fortunately, there are a lot of videogame consumers out there, and the market continues to grow."
"People want to play games, and the games keep getting better. The development community is really driving that by making great product."
