PS3 outsells Xbox 360 and Wii in Australia

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia’s marketing director, Michael Ephraim, has revealed that the company’s latest home console, PlayStation 3, has been outselling both the Xbox 360 and Wii in Australian territories almost every week since its launch on March 23rd.

“Based on GfK since launch, PS3 has been the number one next-gen console, outselling Wii and Xbox 360 every week, except for last week," stated Ephraim, in an interview with Gamespot.com

According to GfK figures, Ephraim stated that the system has sold through a total of 50,000 units since launch, with sales reportedly boosted due to the fact many electronic retailers are marketing the console as a Blu-ray player in addition to a games console.

"We’ve now sold 50,000 and we’re very excited about the fact that it’s being sold in retailers that are gaming retailers as a gaming device and other things, but as you’ll notice it’s now being sold in Harvey Norman consumer electronics stores as a Blu-ray player," he said. "Since March 23, PS3 has been the number one selling next-gen console in Australia, and this is GfK figures.”
