PS3 outsold 360 in February, say Microsoft

Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has said that he expects Sony’s PlayStation 3 to have outsold the Xbox 360 in February, in what he labels as a “hollow victory” for the rival platform holder.

The Xbox 360 Group Product Manager told next-gen.biz, “Our expectation is that because of our shortages at retail during February, we will sell less than PS3.”

“That’s not a surprise to us. I don’t know what Sony’s reaction will be to that, but it will definitely be a bit of a hollow victory. The competition sure didn’t show up [in February].”

Despite this, Greenberg noted that the Xbox 360 has outsold the PS3 by as much as two-to-one “every single month” when the console has been in stock.

Full US NPD hardware figures are expected later today.
