GI.biz has caught word that Sony Corp. has reportedly ordered enough components to manufacture approximately one million PlayStation 3 consoles during the third quarter of 2009.
According to the Telegraph, the figure is roughly double the number made during the last three months, fuelling yet more speculation over the release of the long rumored Slim PS3. In particular, industry folk are anticipating an announcement during Sony’s lengthy press conference at GamesCom later this month. The Telegraph report goes on to say that punters can expect to pay around £260 GBP for a 40GB Slim PS3, and around £300 GBP for an 80GB SKU.
Late last week it was revealed that PS3 manufacturing costs had dropped 70 percent since the machine’s launch in late 2006. Elsewhere in related news, it has been confirmed that Amazon.com has slashed the price of the 160GB PS3 Uncharted bundle by $50 USD.
