PS3 System Software Update 4.92 With More Stability Improvements, Blu-Ray Playback Requires Patch For New Encryption Key

The PS3 may be turning 19-years-old this year, but Sony Interactive Entertainment is still pumping out new updates for the console, with today seeing the release of PS3 system software update 4.92. As with the past few patches, this isn’t anything too exciting, but we’ve included the details below.

Please note, to play Blu-ray discs, your PS3 system needs a renewed Blu-ray player encryption key. Please update your PS3 system software to the latest version to renew the Blu-ray player encryption key.

The PS3 launched in the US and Japan in November 2006, with the UK launch following in Spring 2007. Ex-Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida recently revealed that Sony incurred masses losses during the release period for the PS3, with its PlayStation business only saved by the strong performance of the format holder’s TV division.
