PS3 system software update (v4.00) coming this week

To prepare for the release of the PlayStation Vita in Japan, Sony will update the PlayStation 3 with software update (v4.00) to prepare the system to serve as a content management device. This means users can copy digital content like games, music, photos, and videos between their Vita and PS3, back up Vita games (including save data to PS3 hard drives), and update the system software for Vita using the network feature on the PS3. The software update is slated for release this week.

The update also allows PlayStation Plus subscribers to choose to enable or disable automatic update features for game patches, system software, recommended game and videos, and synch trophy information. The other update gives PlayStation Network settings for filtering friend requests and messages.
