PlayStation 4 outsold Xbox One in the U.S. during December 2015, according to the latest data from the NPD Group.
This means that Sony’s current-generation managed to secure the top spot in hardware sales during the two busiest periods of 2015, with November also proving to be a triumphant period for the PS4.
In fact, last year proved to be a massive success for the console, with Sony’s platform outselling Xbox One in every month during 2015 apart from April and October.
Sony said in a statement:
“As we reflect on an amazing year, we want to thank fans and partners for making PlayStation 4 the top selling console in December and in 2015. PS4 also had the strongest third-party software sales in 2015 in the U.S., according to NPD.
“The momentum and enthusiasm for the platform continued throughout the year, resulting in cumulative sales of more than 35.9 million since the launch of PS4. During the holiday season alone, more than 5.7 million PS4s and 35 million PS4 games were sold through to consumers worldwide. We look forward to another great year and bringing an extensive portfolio of games from our publisher partners and SCE Worldwide Studios to fans in 2016.”
PS4 vs Xbox One
Sony has positioned itself comfortably ahead of the Xbox One in global sales, although Microsoft hasn’t actually confirmed just how many consoles it has sold. Regardless, the format holder has admitted that PS4 has a massive lead on the Xbox One, and may not be able to catch up with its rival.
PS4 has a number of big releases coming out this year, including first-party titles such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Gran Turismo Sport, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and The Last Guardian. In addition, there’s also ample third-party support in the shape of Ratchet & Clank, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Resident Evil Zero HD Remaster, Mass Effect Andromeda, and more.
