PS4 could be out-shipped by Xbox One, says analyst

PlayStation 4 may potentially be out-shipped by Xbox One at launch as momentum for Microsoft’s next-generation console grows following a poor E3, suggests analyst Colin Sebastian.

Sebastian noted that Microsoft’s decision to do a 180 on its user restriction polices for Xbox One has paid off, despite its Los Angeles presentation last month garnering much criticism from the press and gamers alike.

“Despite losing the headline battle at E3, Microsoft’s Xbox One appears to be regaining some momentum, in part due to the used and online policy tweaks. Importantly, our supply chain checks suggest Microsoft may have the benefit of a 2-3x unit advantage at launch compared to Sony’s PS4,” he said.

Despite this, Sebastian anticipates that both Sony and Microsoft’s new consoles will run into supply issues at launch. He also suggested that the PS4’s price advantage over Xbox One won’t likely have much impact during the release window, as early adopters won’t see it as an obstacle when purchasing a system they want.

Lastly, it seems that this holiday season is a case of ‘make or break’ for the Wii U, with the analyst stating, “the fate of the platform will likely rest on the popularity of Nintendo’s holiday software line-up.”

Do you think PS4’s price advantage will sway punters this launch window? Or do you think Microsoft has made enough changes to its policies and will win over consumers? Let us know in the comments section below.
