PS4 ‘hasn’t been here long enough to have its Uncharted 2,’ says Secret Lunch boss

The PlayStation 4 hasn’t been on the market long enough to have a title as defining as last-generation’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves or The Last of Us, Secret Lunch boss Sam Gross has said.

Speaking to GamingBolt, Gross was quizzed as to whether or not next-generation systems have lived up to the promise of outperforming the latest gaming PCs with their increased technical prowess.

“I don’t see how any home console could ‘outperform most gaming PCs’ as PCs are constantly evolving,” he commented. “We haven’t seen either Sony or Microsoft’s boxes pushed to their limits though, so there’s obviously more to be gotten out of them. I often prefer late-generation console games to their contemporaries on PC – the stage of a console’s life cycle where they really start wringing out all the power they can.”

He added: “Even though people could argue that they’ve got lower fps, dpi, poly counts (all that boring stuff) they always look better to me; the PS4 hasn’t been around nearly long enough to have had its Uncharted 2, let alone its The Last of Us.”

While games such as The Last of Us: Remastered and Killzone: Shadow Fall have certainly remained visual showpieces for Sony’s latest home console, few could argue that it has yet to see a title that really pushes the console’s processing power like The Last of Us did for its predecessor.

However, Uncharted 4: Among Thieves looks set to change that when it launches in 2015, with many expecting the Naughty Dog action-adventure sequel to set a new benchmark for console visuals, much like Uncharted 2 did back in 2009.
