PS4 is best-selling system of 2014, Call of Duty tops software chart

The NPD Group has confirmed that Sony’s PlayStation 4 came out on top as 2014’s best-selling video games console in North America.

Furthermore, a statement from Sony goes one step further, claiming its latest home console was the best-selling platform of 2014 on a global basis.

PS4 has already sold 18.5 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2013, and topped the U.S. hardware charts for a staggering ten months. It also passed one million sales in Japan recently.

Meanwhile, combined sales of Sony and Microsoft’s new systems continue to outpace those of their last-generation counterparts, the NPD Group added.

On the software front, there’s little surprise to hear that the best-selling video game of 2014 turned out to be Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, the latest entry in Activision’s multi-million selling military shooter franchise.
