PS4 is the ‘best place’ to play Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, apparently

Sony’s PlayStation 4 is the ‘best place’ to play Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, the format holder has said.

"This is a historic partnership that makes PlayStation the best place to play Call of Duty," Sony’s Adam Boyes said in a statement over the weekend. "The massive reception to the game’s multiplayer beta only a few months ago demonstrated the huge appetite our fans have for this franchise and the anticipation for Black Ops III."

Unsurprisingly, Boyes confirmed that Black Ops 3 is among the most anticipated games for the company’s flagship home console: "This is the game our fans want," he said. "And we’re proud to welcome Call of Duty to its new home on PlayStation 4."

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is out now for PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. While the current-generation versions of the game offer the complete Call of Duty experience, the PS3 and Xbox 360 releases eschew a number of key features, including the single-player campaign. In addition, last-generation versions will not run at the series’ standard of 60fps. Be sure to read our Call of Duty 3: Black Ops 3 review-up and stay tuned for our full verdict next week. Call of Duty has sold 175 million units worldwide since its inception in 2003.

Black Ops 3 takes place 40 years after the events of its predecessor in the year 2065. With air assault rendered virtually useless thanks to the application of several high-tech defences, combat around the globe now takes place behind enemy lines in covert operations. In this war zone however, soldiers possess superhuman abilities, with humans now considered more machine than flesh and blood thanks to the array of enhancements to their bodies.

As with the previous game, Black Ops 3 follows a group of super soldiers belonging to an elite black ops unit as they battle across a series of futuristic environments, wielding an assortment of deadly weaponry. The campaign can be played alone or with up to four friends, while Zombies will include its own campaign as well as multiplayer, along with a revamped XP system.
