We’re just days away from the official reveal of PlayStation 4 Neo at the PlayStation Meeting on September 7, but there may be no surprises left as the leaked specs from a few weeks ago could well be correct if this latest rumor proves to be true.
Daniel Ahmad, an analyst and regular tweeter of insider videogame gossip, has made a few comments on his account over the last few days regarding the PS4 Neo specs, suggesting that the details that have already been leaked are spot-on and we shouldn’t be expecting anything more.
I think the people who are expecting PS4 Neo to have a huge spec boost over what was previously leaked are going to be disappointed.

He has also tweeted an image that claims to prove that a Japanese company has been running a PlayStation 4 Neo demo on a new engine.

The new console is rumoured to have an upgraded CPU and GPU compared to the original PS4 model, and will therefore be able to display 4K-compatible games in a higher resolution. It’s also been claimed it will launch with 8GB of GDDR5 memory which is around 25% faster than the PS4.
Of course, this is all rumor for now. Expect more details on September 7 where Sony will take to the stage to show off PlayStation Neo and the new PS4 Slim to the world. We’re expecting release dates, pricing and confirmed specifications for both models.
What is PS4 Neo?
PS4 Neo delivers an upgrade over the previous PS4 model, delivering a better CPU and an improved GPU. Though the specifications haven’t officially been released, PS4.5 is rumored to include:
- CPU boosted from 1.6 GHz to 2.1 GHz
- GPU upgraded from 18 CUs at 800 MHz to 36 CUs at 911 MHz
- 8GB RAM remains same, but it will run at 218 GB/s compared to 176 GB/s
How much will PS4.5 cost?
Sony has yet to announced the PS4 Neo price, but rumors suggest that it could retail at approximately $399. It’s widely expected that Sony will cut the price of the PS4 once it officially announces the new console.
Will it be called PlayStation 4 Neo?
Probably not. PS4 Neo was the codename given to the new PlayStation console while in development. Some people are making a guess at what it might be called though, including PS4 Forever 🙂
