The next major PS4 firmware update 4.50 adds a much needed feature for PS4 Pro players called Boost Mode.
Those who own a PS4 Pro will be able to get some extra juice in their console to help improve the framerate of games released prior to PS4 Pro’s launch that haven’t already received a upgrade via a patch.
In a recent video analysis by the folks at Digital Foundry, they’ve concluded that the framerate boosts will be significant following Sony’s latest firmware update. Games like Battlefield 4, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, Project Cars all seem to run much smoother at higher frame rates on the PS4 Pro, and we’ve started to compile a list of PS4 Pro Boost Mode compatible games that are significantly enhanced.
Alongside framerate, textures seem to load much faster. This can be seen in the video below where BF4’s ground textures in the Golmud Railway multiplayer map appear instantly on PS4 Pro.
It isn’t all good news though as there’s also games where PS4 Pro seems to have a detrimental effect, causing crashes. Check out the list of PS4 Pro games where Boost Mode doesn’t work its magic.
The PS4 firmware update 4.50 is currently only available via a closed beta. A firm release date has yet to be announced.
