PS4 Pro: Price, release date, specs, preorder details, games and much more!

From the PS4 Pro price and release date to the PS4 Pro specs and where to preorder the new console, we’ve got all the details on Sony’s new console. And, not forgetting the PS4 Pro games!

Announced at the PlayStation Meeting on September 7, 2016, PS4 Pro (formerly known as PS4 Neo) is an upgraded version of the original PlayStation 4.

Designed specifically to play games in 4K and HDR resolution and improve the overall performance of Sony’s console, the PS4 Pro release date arrives approximately three years into the life-cycle of the launch console.

According to analysts, the release of PS5 is expected to be 2018, so it’s likely to be the ultimate version of the PlayStation console until that point.

Speaking about the vision for its beefed-up PlayStation, Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Andrew House, had this to say:

"Our goal is to deliver high-fidelity graphical experiences. We aim to provide developers with tools to further their visions."

So, what are the PS4 Pro specs, and how does it differ from the original console? Well, PS4 Pro offers numerous upgrades, including:

  • 1TB hard drive
  • Increased GPU power
  • Enhanced CPU clock speed

The increase in performance should mean smoother frame-rates on PS4 games on Pro, while allowing developers to enhance graphics to a level never before possible on past consoles. This should mean game worlds will be far more detailed than ever before by publishers who take advantage of its HDR and 4K features. PS4 Pro will support resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels, though you’ll still need to own a TV capable of displaying at that output.

Sony has created the following chart to show how different TV types will display the content:

Other upgrades include: faster Wi-Fi, a new USB 3.1 Gen.1 port on the back of the unit to support the new PlayStation 4 camera, and better resolutions for streaming using Share Play and Remote Play. Stream PS4 games to YouTube? You’ll be able to stream them at 1080p and 60 frames per second.

PS4 Pro 4K Blu-ray support will not be available at launch, but some industry insiders believe that a patch may be released in the future to enable owners to play 4K enabled games.

PS4 Pro games that support 4K

Though many new and existing titles will be added to the list, there’s already a number of developers who have pledged their support to render their existing games and future titles in 4K.

The PS4 Pro games that are compatible include: Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Titanfall 2.

PS4 Pro price confirmed

The new PS4 will retail at $399/£349/A$560. This places it around $100 more than the PS4 Slim, which is available to buy in the UK, Europe and North America currently.

PS4 Pro release date revealed

Sony’s new console will launch worldwide on November 10, approximately one month after the PSVR release date. Despite all versions of the PlayStation 4 supporting the virtual-reality headset, it’s expected that PS4 Pro will provide a better performance for those games.
