PlayStation 4 sales hit two million worldwide during the Black Friday promotional wave last week, according to Ubisoft employee, Sunny Sanghera.
PS4 sales go through the roof over Black Friday
Sony has yet to share any official figures regarding the performance of its flagship console during the lucrative shopping period, although Sanghera, who is responsible for data collection and analysis, seems to think that the PS4 performed incredibly well.
“Over two million #PS4 consoles sold worldwide this week with a day remaining…. (That Watch Dogs 2 price promotion effect!),” he Tweeted over the weekend.
Yesterday, Chart-Track reported that Sony had shifted an impressive number of PS4 consoles during the Black Friday sales in the U.K., giving the system its most successful week since its November 2013 launch.

Sony’s had a pretty significant year so far, with numerous hardware launches for the PS4. Back in September, the hardware giant launched the trimmer PS4 Slim, which replaces the standard model of the console, while October saw the release of PlayStation VR. Finally, the PS4 Pro, a more powerful version of the standard console allowing for 4K resolution and various other visual improvements, was released back on November 10.
PS4 gained an early lead over the Xbox One following the launch of both systems in November 2013, with Sony’s machine continuing to lead worldwide sales. However, Microsoft recently started notching up monthly victories in U.S. monthly sales following the release of the Xbox One S and Gears of War 4, though we’ve yet to see how the PS4 Pro has impacted Sony’s fortunes.
Looking ahead, 2017 will see the release of a number of high-profile PS4-exclusive titles, including Horizon: Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, God of War, Crash Bandicoot Remastered, and more.
