With Christmas celebrations in full-swing and thousands more people around the world waking up to a brand new shiny console, it’s an ideal time to revisit some of the tips for PlayStation 4 that will help you along the way.
If you’ve already owned a PS4 for some time, it’s still worth checking the list out as there may be something you’ve missed.
1. Switch between apps quickly
Switch between apps quickly by tapping the PS Button twice to go to the last app you used.
2. Take a screenshot and Share it on social media
Press SHARE on the DS4 controller and select upload screenshot. You can then choose to share whatever was on your screen to Facebook or Twitter in less than 30 seconds.
3. Extend the DualShock 4 (DS4) battery life
Go to Settings > Devices > Controllers > Brightness of DUALSHOCK
4. Charge the DS4 while you’re asleep or away from the console
To charge while in standby mode, go to (Settings) > [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Standby Mode] > [Supply Power from USB Ports]. Select the check box.
While in standby mode, the light bar slowly blinks in orange. When charging is complete, the light bar turns off.
To enter standby mode, press and hold the PS button on the DS4 controller for a couple of seconds and then select Enter Rest Mode.
5. Use the gyro-keyboard to make typing easier
If you use the on-screen keyboard on PS4 regularly, you should try out the gyro-keyboard. When using the keyboard, click R3 on the DS4. You can now use the motion-sensing capabilities of the DS4 to navigate the keyboard, using the touch pad as the input key.
6. Use Voice Commands to navigate
Enable voice commands by going to SETTINGS > SYSTEM. Choice Voice Operation Settings and select OPERATE PS4 WITH VOICE. A full guide to voice control can be found here.
7. Turn off notifications in-game
Notifications can be annoying when you’re in the thick of it. Turn them off in-game by going to SETTINGS > NOTIFICATIONS. Just untick the box for which notification you no longer want to receive.
8. Free up space on your hard-drive
Games, game saves, media and apps will eat up your storage space, yet there’s probably many applications you don’t use or need anymore. Go to Settings > System Storage Management . You can see how much free space there is available on your hard-drive and see what is taking up the space. You can go through and delete what you want.
9. Check out the PlayStation Store, regularly
If you’re signed up to PlayStation Plus, don’t forget to check the PlayStation Plus section on the PS Store every month. You’ll get free games to download every month. If you miss them, they’ll be gone forever.
10. Download and set-up apps to Watch TV
The PS4 has a range of media apps, including BBC iPlayer, Demand 5, Sky and much more. You can download apps from the PlayStation Store, located under apps.
