PS4 to get Internet TV by end of 2014

Earlier this week at the Tokyo Game Show, Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, confirmed that Internet TV will be coming to the PlayStation 4 in the United States by the end of the year.

Sony signed the agreement with T.V. giant Viacom to bring 20 channels to the console including MTV and Nickelodeon. Though it hasn’t been confirmed, the service may be extended to other Sony devices and possibly even support third-party devices including Smart Phones, Tablets and Smart TVs.

The new service competes with Microsoft’s “OneGuide” service for Xbox One that allows users to combine T.V. service with the devices video apps.

Although initially launched as a pure gaming console, it looks like Sony is following Microsoft’s approach and turning the PlayStation 4 into a multi-media center.
