Speaking in its latest earnings call, French publisher Ubisoft has announced that sales of PlayStation 4 software for the company have vastly eclipsed those of Xbox One in the past six months.
PS4 software accounted for 27 percent of all games sold during the first half of Ubisoft’s 2015/2016 fiscal year, more than double the amount achieved by its Xbox One game output, which managed just 12 percent. Interestingly, both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 games sold equally accounting for nine percent of overall software sales each.
The company revenue’s surpassed its internal forecast, hitting €207.3 million, although this still amount to a year-on-year loss of €65.7.
“The quality of our back-catalog and the growing digitization of our business enabled us to deliver a solid performance in the first half of the year, even though – as planned – we did not release any major titles during the period,” commented Ubisoft’s CEO, Yves Guillemot. “The fact that more than 80% of our annual sales are expected to be generated in the second half of the year mechanically weighed on our earnings for the first six months.”
It’s worth noting that the recently-released Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Just Dance 2016 were not included in the financial report. Ubisoft still has a number of high-profile titles due for release in the not-too-distant future, including Tom Clancy’s The Division, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, and Far Cry Primal.
