Sony has released the latest PlayStation 4 system software update, bringing its flagship home console to version 4.05.
PS4 update 4.05 now live, so go and grab it!
PSU has fired up our own console and found that the update is available to download now, and can confirm it weighs in at 312MB. However, much like the previous update, you shouldn’t get too excited for any radical changes; Sony’s patch notes confirm it simply works on ‘improving the quality of system performance.’
Of course, it’s unlikely Sony would have any major changes in store for the PS4 at this point, as the last major update introduced a large number of additions to the table. Right now, all that’s left is the ability to change your PSN ID, something which we imagine could be implemented at a later date—early next year perhaps?
Sony launched the PlayStation 4 in November 2013, where it immediately went head-to-head with Microsoft’s Xbox One. However, despite both consoles getting off to a solid start, PS4 ultimately quickly pulled ahead of its rival, and has gone on to sell over 40 million units worldwide to date.
This year has been easily the most significant to date in the PS4’s lifecycle. Not only have we seen the launch of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, but Sony also released its virtual reality device in the form of PlayStation VR, plus a slimmer version of the PS4. Finally, November 10 will see the launch of PS4 Pro, a high-end version of its flagship console that allows for 4K gaming.
