Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has released the latest PlayStation 4 System Software update for users to grab, bringing its flagship home console to version 4.07.
PS4 update 4.07 out, but adds little in the way of new features
Much like the past couple of PS4 updates however, this latest patch doesn’t add much in the way of any exciting new features. In fact, PS4 firmware 4.07 only weighs in at 312MB and merely “improves the quality of the system performance.” Given that Sony has implemented a number of significant enhancements with the last few big updates, it’s probably going to be a while before we see something major happen on this front.
Sony’s had a pretty significant year so far, with no less than three new hardware launches. September saw the release of the PlayStation 4 Slim, a trimmer version of its current-gen console that has replaced the original model, while October followed with the release of PlayStation VR. Finally, last month saw the format holder roll out its 4K-ready PS4 Pro, a more powerful version of the regular PS4 that features improved hardware specifications.
The hardware manufacturer announced yesterday that it has sold through 50 million PS4s worldwide as of December 6, 2016, following the PlayStation brand’s most successful Black Friday week to date. If you live in the U.S. and are in the market for a new PS4, be sure to take advantage of Sony’s latest deal.
