Sony has quietly released PS4 update 4.73 today, marking the second patch for its flagship console to arrive in just a few weeks.

Once again, this latest PS4 system update is another incremental patch aimed at improving the performance of the near four-year-old console, with the patch notes confirming update 4.73 “improves quality of the system performance.”

It’s not a huge update either, weighing in at 340.6MB, so it’s best to grab it as soon as possible to get your PS4 up to scratch. As mentioned, this new patch arrives hot on the heels of PS4 update 4.72, which again was a minor update improving console performance.

However, it appears that Sony is gearing up for a major new addition with PS4 update 5.0 currently in the pipeline, with the company on the lookout for beta testers for the new update. Presumably, this will add some of much-requested features to PS4 such as the ability to change your PSN ID.

Sony announced earlier this week that the PS4 has now shipped a total of 63.3 million PS4s worldwide since its launch in November 2013. However, sales are down year-on-year, suggesting that hardware sales have already peaked.
