PS4’s must-have RPG Fallout 4 ships an amazing 12 million units

Bethesda has announced that its critically acclaimed RPG, Fallout 4, has broken records for physical and digital sales on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, shipping 12 million units to retailers in order to meet day-one demand.

The company said that the figure represents "in excess of $750 million," and according to various retailers figures, is the most pre-ordered video game so far this year. Not only that, but Fallout 4’s Pip-Boy Edition was the fastest-selling Collector’s Edition release in gaming history at leading retailers.

Retailers added that Fallout 4’s launch day figures were the biggest of any game this year. If that wasn’t enough, the post-apocalyptic RPG also proved to be Twitch’s most viewed game launch of 2015. Unsurprisingly, Bethesda is going to be shipping out more copies to retailers in an effort to meet demand.

Fallout 4 takes place in Boston, U.S., some 200 years after a nuclear war devastated the country, and like Fallout 3, players will emerge from the confines of the Vault to a post-apocalyptic wasteland inhabited by feral creatures and other hazards. Fallout 4 utilizes the Creation Engine, which was previously responsible for powering The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on last-generation consoles, though it has been modified for new hardware. Unlike previous entries in the Fallout franchise, this latest title will include full voice acting for the player character, the ‘Sole Survivor,’ and feature branching dialogue paths similar to the Mass Effect series.
