Select users have been given access to Sony’s cloud streaming beta, which reportedly features up to 4K support.
The beta gives PS5 users the chance to stream games from the cloud to their console, and Sony will be making it available to everyone who subscribes to the PlayStation Plus Premium tier when it gets a full release.
While Sony has yet to announce a full list of PS5 games that will be compatible with the cloud streaming service, it is believed they will include titles from PS Plus Game Catalogue and Game Trials, as well as select PS5 digital titles already owned by the user.
Those who have already accessed the beta have reported that the cloud streaming is available in a number of resolutions, including 720p, 1080p, 1440p and 4K.
Here’s what Sony had to say on the service at the time of its announcement:
We think it’s important for Premium members to be able to enjoy as many games as possible via cloud streaming. As more games continue to launch on the PS5 console, we look forward to adding cloud streaming capability for PS5 titles in addition to the PS3, PS4 and classic titles that are already available for Premium members to stream.
Obviously if you are going to be enjoy higher-resolution streaming you’ll need to have a solid Internet connection, as anything less than that will result in a sub-par experience or lower resolution. Any server issues on Sony’s end will also put a strain on quality, although hopefully the beta will help snuff out any issues.
