PS5 Controller Not Charging – How To Solve DualSense Charging Issues

The PS5 controller (DualSense) needs charging a lot if you’re going to be using it for hours at a time, and is something you probably do without even thinking about it. Let’s face it, how many electronic gizmos do you own that need charging nowadays? However, while the process is easy, there have been many cases of the PS5 controller not charging for one reason or another. Fortunately, there are ways you can remedy the problem, so read on to find out how!

PS5 Controller Not Charging And Possible Fixes

The PS5 controller not charging issue can be due to a number of issues that vary from the cable itself to the console. We recommend checking the following if you are having difficulties in charging the DualSense.

USB Cable

The USB cable is the most common problem when it comes to PS5 controllers not charging, so make sure it is properly connected to the DualSense and the console itself. Alternatively, if you have a spare cable you can try that instead; if it works, you know the problem is with your other USB cable.

Charging The Controller Using Alternate USB ports

If the above method fails then you should try charging the PS5 controller in a different USB port. It should be noted that there is a well-known issue with charging the PS5 controller while the console is in Rest Mode when using the USB Type-A port on the front. As such, make sure you try one of the rear ports instead.

Clean Your USB Port

If there’s any dust or dirt that has gathered in the USB port on the DualSense or the console itself, then this could be causing the issue. Compressed air can be a big help cleaning it, providing you are careful.

Update Your PS5 Firmware

This may seem like an obvious one but sometimes it’s overlooked. Make sure your PS5 is updated to the most recent Firmware. To do this, go to the PS5 main menu > Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update And Settings > Update System Software. If you are not currently running the latest Firmware, you will be prompted to download it.

Use A DualSense Charging Station

The PS5 controller can be charge using the DualSense charging station, which is purchased separately. It’s a handy device as it can charge two PS5 pads at the same time.
