According to sources close to 0451 Games, the PS5 came out on top as the best-selling games console in India during 2021.
An anonymous source claims that Sony’s powerhouse machine beat Xbox Series X/S by 10:1, while consumers in India preferred the disc model, which accounted for 90% of PS5 sales in the country.
Despite the PS5 being hard to get hold of worldwide, India has seen frequent restocks of the system throughout 2021, sometimes as much as twice a month. This applies to both online and brick-and-mortar retailers, so consumers have had plenty of options in regards to how they were able to acquire a PS5.
In terms of games, Resident Evil Village was a huge performer, selling the most on PS4 at launch but later shifting more copies on PS5 than any other format later in the year. Meanwhile, Deathloop became Bethesda’s biggest-selling game in India at launch, eclipsing DOOM, Fallout 4, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The PS5 was released in India in February 2021, a few months after the console launched in the US, UK, and Europe.
India was hit hard by the second wave of coronavirus last Spring, when the Delta variant — which later went on to become the most prominent strain of the virus until Omicron — resulted in a huge surge of cases and put a major strain on the country’s economy.
