Looking ahead, Sony aims to ship 23 million PS5s during the next financial year beginning April 2023. This would put it ahead of PS4 at the same stage in its lifecycle.
The PS5 was released in November 2020 in the US, UK, Europe and other major territories, although the system has been plagued by stock shortages brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic due to lack of vital manufacturing components.
