PS5 Shipments Top 54.8 Million Worldwide, Reveals Sony

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that PS5 shipments have reached 54.8 million units worldwide.

The format holder revealed the figure during its latest financial results for the year ended December 31, 2023, and during the three-month period ended on that date, the console had moved 8.2 million units — an increase of 1.1 million during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Elsewhere, Sony revealed that monthly active users for the PlayStation Network reached 123 million as of December 31, 2022, up from 112 million during the same period last year. In terms of software, PS5 and PS4 sold a combined total of 89.7 million units during the three-month period ended December 31, 2023.

The PS5 was released in November 2020 and was plagued by stock shortages brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. However, supply issues finally subsided early last year, resulting in console sales skyrocketing and were further boosted by the arrival of the PS5 Slim in November 2023.
