The PS5 Slim is just around the corner, and it’s now emerged that the digital-only version of the system will require an Internet connection to pair it with the optional Blu-ray Disc drive if you decide to purchase it.
In case you haven’t been keeping up, the digital PS5 Slim console has the option of adding a Blu-ray disc drive for physical media, which Sony is selling separately. This is a feature that isn’t present in the current digital-only edition, so it’s a nice bonus.
However, an image of one of the leaked Modern Warfare 3 bundles featuring the new console clearly states, “Internet connection required to pair Disc Drive and PS5 console upon setup.”
The PS5 Slim is set to replace the existing version of Sony’s flagship console once stock is depleted, and is reportedly set to launch on November 10, 2023. Looking ahead, there are still rumours pointing to a complete mid-cycle refresh for the console in the shape of the PS5 Pro, although Sony has yet to officially announce anything in this respect.
